Most state licensing boards require that practitioners take continuing education courses in ethics.
The number of ethics credits and course requirements vary by state and board. For example, many states require one to three ethics credits, and course requirements are general in scope. Some states, such as Florida and California, have special requirements for ethics courses for psychologists, marriage and family therapists, social workers, and mental health counselors.

Below is information for California and Florida psychologists, marriage and family therapists, social workers and mental health counselors regarding which of our courses meet their state's requirements for law and ethics:
California psychologists:
California psychologists are required to obtain training in the subject of law and ethics. However, effective January 29, 2007, California psychologists can now determine the most effective means to stay abreast of changes in California laws, regulations, ethical standards and standards of practice as they apply to the practice of psychology in California.
California psychologists may, but are no longer required to, take a 4-hour course in law and ethics. Under the new regulation, the individual psychologist determines the number of law and ethics credits to be taken. - All of our ethics courses meet the law and ethics requirements for Florida LCSWs, LMFTs, and LMHCs.
Most states allow practitioners to take their ethics credits online. However, some do not. Please check with your state board to confirm that you can obtain your ethics credits online.
